Become an International Sommelier: Guild Wine School Options

What does it take to become an international sommelier? Guild training programs, including our level I, II, and III certification courses, will help you reach this goal.

Sommeliers are in demand around the world; whether you work in a local restaurant or you plan to travel abroad to become an international sommelier, Guild classes and programs can help you gain the knowledge you need.

Part 1 - Becoming an International Sommelier: Fundamentals For Professionals Short Courses

The International Wine Guild offers fundamental short-courses to prepare you for our Level I Certification seminar. These one-day short-courses do not require you to be a wine expert or food service professional. Rather, we encourage people from all walks of life to attend. Topics range from wine basics to wine evaluation components. We consider this to be the first step to becoming an international sommelier: Guild fundamental short-courses.

Part 2 – Becoming an International Sommelier: Guild Level I and II Programs

Our Level I certification is an introductory wine course, which introduces students to the basics of wine education. This includes wine and food pairing, basic wine tasting and evaluation skills, and a greater knowledge of wine regions.

The International Wine Guild's Level II sommelier program is an advanced continuation of Level I, and while it appeals to food service professionals seeking sommelier certification, it is also open to the general public. The Level II certification continues to deepen your knowledge of wine, with the goal of understanding what it takes to become an international sommelier. Guild staff will ensure that you gain extensive knowledge of both New and Old World wines.

Part 3 – Becoming an International Sommelier: Guild Level III, Wine Master

With our Level III certification you can become an international sommelier, Guild Wine Master. The program includes advanced pairing, advanced training in wine regions, a blind tasting course, and master exams. While the course is extremely challenging, those who complete it gain the title of Guild Wine Master. This program requires an intense commitment to wine education; graduates become among the few true wine experts in the world.
