France is one of the most important wine producing countries in the world. (If you don’t believe that just ask them.) An in-depth knowledge of French wine is critical to really be a serious wine student or if you just like French wine and want to learn about it.
In this course you will taste 40+ wines and receive more than 750+ pages of educational material, designed just for this course. All of our class materials are update yearly so our students have the most current information available.
These are the most important wine regions in France representing more than 80% of all of AOC/AOP (the highest quality level) wine produced in France.

- Geography and terroir
- Wine production techniques by wine type, style and appellation
- Wine growing and obligation requirements for each Appellation in the regions studied
- How to use vintage data, and the Guild’s proprietary Wine Style Charts by Appellation

This course is available in two formats, with no difference in course content, wine evaluation or instruction:
- 10-week course: Class meets from 6 PM – 10 PM once a week for 10 weeks and a total of 40 contact hours; Course fee: $1,995 (includes registration fees, handouts, wine tastings, and instruction)
- 5-day intensive study course: Class meets from 8 AM – 5 PM daily, Monday through Friday, for a total of 40 contact hours; Course fee: $2,070
(includes registration fees, handouts, wine tastings, lunch each day, and instruction)
No Required Prerequisites
This is a Guild Level 3 course. If you would like to take a detailed, technical course on French wine you should take this course. However, we strongly recommend, but do not require, that you first take the Level 1 Wine Seminar before attempting any Level 3 course.
You may be enrolled in our Level 2 Advanced Wine Course and concurrently take Level 3 courses.
